A new HDMI standard has arrived, namely HDMI 2.1.
First, a little about the HDMI 2.1 technology:
The new standard uses 4 data channels, as opposed to the 3 that have been available up until now. The speed of each channel has also been increased. This provides a massive increase in bandwidth from 18 Gbit/s in HDMI 2.0 to 48 Gbit/s in HDMI 2.1 - which is almost 3 times as fast. The new HDMI standard supports DSC, which together with the high bandwidth, allows up to 10K at 100 Hz. By comparison, HDMI 2.0 can only manage up to 4K at 60 Hz. There is therefore a significant improvement from HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.1.
Why choose HDMI 2.1 cables?
More and more devices are equipped to support 8K. There is no advantage in using 8K without the correct cables. On the other hand, the new cables are backwards-compatible. In other words, you can start using the new cables immediately, even though your devices are not equipped for 8K at present. This means that your cables are future-proof.
